If you’re suffering from colitis or other flare-ups of the chronic inflammation and infection caused by the coronavirus, then there’s no better time than now to start your diet.
But if you’ve been avoiding foods and drinks, you may be putting yourself at greater risk of serious illnesses and even death.
Here are five foods and drink that could be a lifesaver.
1.
Water: One cup of regular tap water per day is recommended, although some people are able to drink water to manage their flare-up.
But be aware that some foods are high in sodium and some may also contain added sugars.
If you need a water-only diet, consider this simple rule: 1 cup of water a day is a lot of water, but it’s not as much as you’d need for a whole week.
2.
Fruit: One large apple is recommended for a week.
But there are plenty of fruit-based drinks available, so there’s room for variety.
3.
Tea: You can add one teaspoon of cinnamon, one teaspoon ground ginger, and one teaspoon fresh ginger root to tea.
You can also add sugar or cream or milk to tea to sweeten it up. 4.
Coffee: Add one teaspoon sugar or vanilla bean extract to your coffee or espresso to sweetens it up, and you’ll be good to go. 5.
Soda: Some people find that a little sugar helps reduce their flare up.
But you can also substitute one teaspoon powdered sugar for the regular one, and this will make it more palatable.
Keep in mind that you may need to use a few teaspoons of sugar each day to achieve the recommended daily dose.
